Micky van de Ven scored twice as Spurs extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien believed he had equalized the scores a short while after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a handful of chances, while Vicario made a series of fine saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR intervened, instructing the match official to check the score on the screen and the referee ruled that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, five points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

Everton remain in 14th position and are six points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in role at both ends of pitch

After a uninspiring midweek display in the European competition against Monaco, where they managed a only two shots on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to influence the game before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Centre-back the Dutchman converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the face of goal for an unmarked Van de Ven to score.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as skipper in the Argentine's absence - added his second in added time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was equally impressive in defensive duties, combining effectively with Kevin Danso as the duo dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing finishing touch

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have faded somewhat and supporters headed to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's pair of recognised strikers - had netted just one league goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were unable to add to that poor tally on a damp and dreary evening on Merseyside.

Beto's form was summed up when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, despite having space and opportunity to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, as well, was unable to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly delivered threatening crosses into the Spurs box.

Everton: Moyes' men travel to Sunderland in the Premier League on Monday, 3 November at 20:00 GMT.

Spurs: Spurs travel to St James' Park on Wednesday, 29 October for their next round Carabao Cup match against Newcastle.
