The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
