The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
