Supporters Call for Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the actress are demanding that a individual who breached a fence and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the individual from Australia shoving aside photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being arrested", though court documents indicated that he was set to appear on the following morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account features clips of him interrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is evidently a legal violation," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Followers Express Concern Over Ariana's Safety
Several followers blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote another comment on Instagram.
Several attendees also criticised security officers at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals requested digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked surprised when she was touched by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Hundreds of fans had congregated in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The film, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected friendship between two distinct sorceresses.
The show itself is a spin-off of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a rosé glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of 2024 in the UK, and received 10 award recognitions, securing a pair for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
