Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for questions to be asked about his position following a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach stated.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with performances this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
