Outrage Surges as Former President Trump's Post on Director Rob Reiner Draws Fierce Criticism

Individuals from across the partisan spectrum and the entertainment industry are coming together to censure Donald Trump for his statements in the wake of the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Controversial Social Media Post

Following the discovery of the couple deceased at their Brentwood home, Trump took to social media to describe the late director as "tortured and suffering". The message, he claimed Reiner's death was "because of the hostility he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments quickly shifted to self-praise, juxtaposing Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "unprecedented era of America".

Law Enforcement Update and Arrest

Authorities have since announced the arrest of the Reiners' adult son, Nick, on charges related to homicide in relation to the incident. It is reported his bail was established at a significant amount.

A Wave of Criticism from Public Figures

The reaction to Trump's words was immediate and harsh.

“What a disgusting and despicable comment,” said public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a close acquaintance, similarly condemned the remarks. She pointed to prior comments from Trump regarding political violence, asking, "Have you no shame? Is it possible to get any lower?"

California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly wrote, "This is a sick man."

Echoing this view, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "What a contemptible piece of trash."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "Trump has just crossed a line. Now saying the Reiners caused their own demise because they didn’t support him. So sick."

Criticism from His Own Party

Some Republican elected officials also voiced disapproval.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about political feuds or rivals". She also mentioned struggles with substance abuse and mental health some families face.

Fellow Republican representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's remarks "inappropriate and disrespectful" considering the nature of the deaths. He publicly challenged members in his party to justify the statements.

Reiner's History and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a outspoken detractor of Donald Trump. During a past interview, he argued Trump was "mentally unfit" for the office. He had also cautioned about the dangers of autocracy should Trump be reelected to power.

"We see authoritarianism on the rise around the world," Reiner noted. "If we crumble, there’s a danger that democracy crumble around the world."

Despite his pointed opposition, Reiner had previously expressed "absolute horror" and denounced political violence unequivocally after the shooting of another individual.

An Ironic Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a element of historical connection, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the photographer who shot the cover image for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once shared the story of the session, mentioning Trump's demand for "a specific hair product" as posing on a high-rise with a view of Central Park.
