Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the American officials has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites linked to the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.

Additional Developments

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with notable success and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.

The statement noted wreckage fell on a populated district in the capital, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
