Grief as Beloved South African DJ Gunned Down in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a nation struggling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by three suspects, one of whom opened fire on him before escaping on foot.
The reason of the shooting is unknown and no arrests are in custody, police said.
The Fatal Incident
Authorities revealed that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a premises close to the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the site overseeing the setup of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by squatters, according to reports.
"Authorities believe the man was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," a police statement confirmed.
CCTV footage reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a guard's attire shooting on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries across the street.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were found at the crime scene.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have have information to assist with the investigation.
"Evidence suggests they walked a long distance after the shooting, and investigators have been tracking them to determine their location," remarked an authority figure.
Family and Public Reaction
His sister, Nicole Stock, said the relatives are devastated to process his death.
"I am in shock. I don't have words," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were willing to tackle. This is a devastating blow."
She urged the public to refrain from sharing graphic images from the scene, explaining this was an deeply traumatic time, particularly for Stock's children.
Life Beyond the Decks
Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that premiered on a popular local digital satellite entertainment channel.
Apart from his work in broadcasting, Stock was active in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including protective services, supplying elite guarding services and managing safety for major functions across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in building administration and was involved in tenant removals.

His killing has shocked the country and led to an outpouring of tributes from his audience, the authorities and various organizations.
A cabinet official remarked he was angry and saddened by Stock's murder.
"He was forthright fearlessly and impartially. He even challenged me and my decisions as a minister. He was a pure example of who we must aspire to be," the minister added.
A party figurehead stated the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a shock for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director noted that "Stock was not merely a TV personality. He was a skilled narrator, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a warm soul who brought happiness and vitality to every appearance. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."
In a release, the channel he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, approachability and intelligent commentary, adding that his memory "will live on".
