Among Avatar's best episodes gets a dedicated MTG special card drop.
Ordinarily, clip shows face criticism by fans as a needless waste of time, or sometimes tolerated as a requirement for shows in the age of weekly production. However, this wasn't true, though Avatar: The Last Airbender showed it through "The Ember Island Players," a cherished episode during its concluding run that is now getting an exclusive Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drop.
Information of the Secret Lair
The full Secret Lair superdrop for the soon-to-release Avatar: The Last Airbender collection was unveiled earlier this month. Containing five separate collections, and although the one called "My Cabbages!" is an admittedly funny homage to the series' most famous minor character, the other collections seem somewhat lacking creativity, aside from one remarkable entry: "The Ember Island Players."
Inspired by the seventeenth episode of the third season of the beloved series, this special set features the following cards:
- 1x Phantasmal Image represented as "Absolutely Accurate Actor"
- 1x Braid of Fire
- 1x Cursed Mirror
- 1x Mask of Memory
- 1x Thespian's Stage
The reason this installment remains memorable
Fans of Avatar clearly recall this particular episode, which served as a recap of Aang and the group's adventure leading up to the conclusion. Different from other recap episodes, or retrospective segments, "The Ember Island Players" did not stem from financial limitations or production issues. The producers genuinely intended to offer viewers a chance to revisit the series' story, but they decided to approach it inventively.
In the episode, the heroes observe a stage show depicting their journeys on a stage located on Ember Island, titled The Boy in the Iceberg. The whole thing is wildly exaggerated, melodramatic, and overall hilarious. It works because it plays with the characters' perception regarding their own identities, setting them against against how the world (and particularly the Fire Nation citizens) sees them. It possesses the right amount of self-awareness, and it ends up possibly the finest interpretation of Avatar we have had.
Value and pricing
Regarding worth, this offers a fantastic Secret Lair because of one major element: Braid of Fire. This particular card trades for $20 and $40 through card retailers as of now, while for $29.99 you can obtain the full set, or $39.99 for the shiny edition.
Magic: The Gathering's Avatar: The Last Airbender edition can be accessed for advance previews starting November 14 and releases worldwide come November 21.
